You Are A Royal Priest

1 Peter 2:1–12

In today’s passage Peter reminds us that Christ is the corner stone, the stone the builders rejected, and we are being made into stones like Him that we might be used to build God’s Kingdom. Peter urges us to reject the passions of the flesh which wage war against our souls for we are called to a higher purpose. Read the following verse and tell me if it doesn’t just blow your mind.

1 Peter 2:9

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

God chose you – amazing! God chose you to be a royal priest – astounding! He chose you to be part of His holy nation – stupendeous! He called you out of darkness into His marvelous light so that you could proclaim His excellencies! He not only called you and saved you, but He did so for a purpose. Are you fulfilling your purpose as His royal priest proclaiming the love, mercy, grace, and justice of God?

Brothers, no where in Scripture does it say that we are to outsource our responsibility to proclaim the Gospel to paid church staff. You know, back in the American Civil War the wealthy in the North could avoid the draft by paying others to serve in their place. I find that fact repugnant but I wonder if it doesn’t find its modern equivelent in American churches today. It is positively wrong for anyone to view their tithe as a dodge the draft scheme. Yes, your pastor and church staff members are part of the royal priesthood, but so are you. They are doing their jobs; are you doing yours?

Guys, remember who and whose you are. Remember that the only reason God has left you here in this fallen world after He saved you from your sin is to proclaim His Gospel. Learn how to share your faith, make a plan to share your faith, look for opportunities to share your faith, and then get to work sharing your faith. Put on your royal robes and get to work royal priest!

Have a blessed day!

Your brother and servant in Christ,

Dying to self, living to serve!
